These parasitic filaments tap directly into the host's respiratory system, siphoning vital internal oxygen to fuel their own metabolic glow. The resulting intense blue luminescence creates a stark, pulsating beacon against the planet's perpetual twilight, signaling weakness and distress to the surface ecosystem.
