Overview
On Aethelgard's terminator band, the Umbra-vinculum is not a rigid stalk or a mineral structure, but a soft-bodied, gelatinous organism that defies the crushing 4-bar pressure by being entirely fluid-filled. It appears as a pulsating, pale violet mound of translucent flesh anchored to the basalt, resembling a bloated, fleshy sponge rather than a plant or crystal. Its body is a continuous, muscular hydrostat, lacking a rigid skeleton, allowing it to absorb the constant gale-force winds by flexing and rippling like a jelly. The 'head' is not a distinct bulb but a fluid-filled, sensory dome that can invert and evert, revealing a ring of soft, cartilaginous tentacles lined with heat-sensitive papillae. The creature's skin is a semi-permeable membrane, glowing faintly with bioluminescent bacteria that mimic the thermal signature of the warm rock, luring the Xylos grazers.
