Aeroflatus volans, the "Gas Giant," is a buoyant scavenger endemic to Aethelgard's warm atmospheric strata. Its translucent, balloon-like body is filled with low-density hydrogen generated from ingested debris, allowing it to drift effortlessly within the planet's turbulent thermal currents. This adaptation grants it perpetual suspension in the habitable zone of this rogue super-Earth, far above the crushing depths below. Feeding exclusively on organic matter raining down from the crustal surface, the creature uses delicate, ciliated filaments to filter dead thermal drifters and decaying flora from the air. When prey is captured, specialized gastric sacs break down the biomass while releasing metabolic gas to maintain neutral buoyancy, ensuring the organism remains suspended in its nutrient-rich aerial pasture until death returns it to the lower layers.
